Air of Elegance - the Home of Megan Hess

celebrity-homes-megan-hess-creative-home
“Every single inch of it is built around how we like to live and the things we love.”
Glossy lifestyle magazines like to bring us to the homes of celebrities. "Adore Home" (April-May 2013) has devoted several pages of the home interior of an artist well known in the West.

Megan Hess began her career in Australia as art director for advertising studios and then moved to London, where her talent was appreciated. She illustrates the Candace Bushnell’s books including "Sex and the City." In her portfolio there are drawings of other well-known books including an autobiography First Lady of the United States.

Still the main talent of the artist is revealed in her drawings on the theme of fashion and interiors. Contributing leading fashion houses such as Tiffany, Chanel, Dior, Fendi, Guerlain and Bvlgari, Megan Hess has found her own unique style and has become one of the most wanted illustrators in the world of graphic advertising.

I invite you to take a walk in Megan’s sophisticated penthouse in Melbourne, where the illustrator lives with her husband and their two children.

The couple confess that they had argued on every square inch to create a space they really enjoy.
“I initially thought the space was completely crazy,” she says. “It was the entire roof of an 18th century church! The location was perfect and it was enormous BUT it was a roof. Craig took photos, scanned them into the computer and started to show me where we would put walls and how it would work (the perks of being married to an architect!). As soon as I saw that I knew it would be perfect.”

The combined living room, dining room and kitchen amaze with their size and atmosphere. The secret - the combination of white and black strokes create amazing freshness and style. Luxury sofa "Chesterfield" is an evergreen classic, but its white version particularly makes it look refine.

The main decoration of Megan’s living room are black and white photos of the incomparable Audrey Hepburn – Megan’s favorite actress.
“Audrey Hepburn has such an iconic look that still resonates with me today”

The balcony is designed as an extension of the living area.
“Craig loves to BBQ out there and I just love to put my feet up on the sunbather benches with a nice glass of wine and watch the sun go down over Port Melbourne. I could sit out there for hours.”

The Greek Goddess adds a classical touch in the terrace.

As a complement - animalic zebra patterned plaid and pillows with black prints.

Kitchen:

A glamorous chic - black tiles effectively contrast with the white surfaces of furniture.
Over the kitchen counter we can see a unique solution in the spirit of Louis XV.

DIY Vase on the Wall

Do you remember the post how to make a flower corner in your home? Here is another creative idea how to decorate your home for the spring. Shanty-2-chic blog give us tip how to make a vase on the wall. This could be an accent in your living room or bedroom decoration. Or you can hang the vase outside and to decorate your balcony. This craft idea is cheap and easy to make. Enjoy it!

DIY Vase on the wall

You will need pine planks - if you don't have pine planks, use planks from any old dressers or cupboards, saw, two acrylic or latex paints (one darker and one lighter), vaseline, sandpaper, beautiful jar (or bottle), metal mount, metal fittings, screws.

How to do it yourself:

Step 1 Cut the pine plank in desired size with saw. Then use sandpaper to clean and round the edges and corners of the plank.

Step 2 Paint the plank. First lay the darker paint at the edges of the plank. Wait to dry and let the vaseline on the edges. Put the lighter paint and wait to dry. Use sandpaper for the edges.

10+ Creative Ideas to Display Photography

Photography at home gives it warmth and coziness. Everytime when you look at the pictures it will revoke happy memories, forgotten emotions and passions. To make a master-piece in your home you have to carefully choose the photos and how they will be displayed.

First of all, choose the most beautiful pictures of yours. It will be better if they are artistic or at least with good quality. Forget about pictures like "me with my prom dress on a background of trees" or  "me and my family at the New Year's table with lot of red eyes and mineral bottles".

When you are choosing the place to display the photos you have to decide if it will be private or public. If you prefer the pictures to be seen by your friends - decorate the living room, the entrance hallway or the stairs. If you prefer to keep the memories just for yourself - you can display the pictures on your working desk, at your bedroom etc. In both cases, be sure that the place is well lit!

Here are some ideas how to display your pictures:

As for the color palette - the black and white photos look more stylish on the wall. But if you prefer colored pictures here some tips from the colorists:
* on light wall color bright frames look amazing
* on bright wall use light frames
* frame will not merge the wall if it is a few shades darker than the wall
* the contrast is always good (bright wall - dark frame; dark wall - bright frame)
* don't use bright frames for dark photos - they will look darker.
